Children’s Day
May 2nd, 2018
HATBORO, PA
On April 30th, Blair Mill Elementary school celebrated children’s day! Children’s day is intended to bring nations together to promote children’s well-being. It is celebrated internationally in places like Japan, India, and Mexico. Each culture celebrates children’s day on different dates and offer different activities. Hatboro-Horsham School District got its first taste of this event.
The theme from this year’s event focused on Mexican and Puerto Rican culture. Representing Mexico was the Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia, and representing Puerto Rico was the Puerto Rico Institution of Music. April 30th, is children’s day in Mexico so the dates lined up perfectly to honor the day.
The Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia brought prizes for students to win by answering trivia questions. They also brought Spanish books for the students to put into their school libraries. Students had the opportunity to submit their Mexican themed artwork into the “Este es mi Mexico” children’s drawing contest.
Out of Hatboro-Horsham’s 5,000 students, 84 different cultures and 39 languages are represented in the district.
Next year’s vision for children’s day will focus on Asian culture.
