Hatboro-Horsham Industrial Art students from Nick Pompei’s class are Santa’s newest helpers. Pompei’s class of 17 students were given the task of building a toy to donate to their local Toys for Tots facility. Students discovered the game “Binho” on Instagram and hit the ground running to design their first prototype.
Pompei and his students have been building items to donate to Toys for Tots for over the past 12 years. Three years ago, students started to go to the facility to drop off their handmade toys and help sort and organize the toys at their local Toys for Tots.
The prototype took a month to create, then once that was completed it took students two months to build six games. The goal is to create a toy for older children since most toys that are donated are geared towards younger children.
“It’s the perfect intro project and the best part is it turns into a community service project for the kids. They get to come here [local Toys for Tots] and make something that gives back to the community.”, Pompei stated.
